Local people are being warned of a scam acting to be from EU Commissioner, and former Midlands Northwest MEP Mairead McGuinness.
Emails seen by Shannonside Northern Sound News have been sent to people across the region, claiming that they've won €50,000 from a Covid-19 Benefits Fund.
Recipients are being asked to reply with their full name, date of birth and phone number in order to process the payment.

The email claims to be sent on behalf of Commissioner McGuinness, and the senders address is similar to legitimate accounts.
EU Commissioner Mairead McGuinness confirmed she's aware of the scam, and is asking anyone who receives it to mark it as junk.
