Parents in Cavan and Monaghan could be waiting until at least next January for a crèche space.
Childcare facilities in only 7 out of 26 counties surveyed had a place available this year, with some having a waiting list of well over 100.
In Cavan the first availability was in January 2023, with others in June of that year.

While in Monaghan there was no availability until September 2023 – including one provider that had 40 names on a waiting list.
It’s reported that the shortage of spaces has forced parents to book places as soon as they become pregnant, or even before conceiving in some cases.
