National Slow Down Day has come to an end, with motorists in Cavan and Monaghan among those caught during the day of action.
The awareness campaign ran for 24 hours until 7am today, when Gardai called on drivers to reduce their speed for the long weekend.
In Monaghan, two people were caught doing over 70 kilometres per hour in 50 zones in Monaghan town, and another doing 109 on the Carrickmacross to Dundalk road.
While in Cavan, someone was doing 73 kilometres per hour through Drung.
Over 100,000 vehicles were checked during the operation, with more than 500 caught breaking the speed limit.
Sergeant Niall Leech from the Cavan-Monaghan Roads Policing Unit says people need to recognise the dangers.
