The minor injuries unit at Monaghan Hospital is playing a major vital role in healthcare to people across the region.
That's according to Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher who is also a candidate in the upcoming General Election for the Cavan/Monaghan constituency.
The local minor injuries unit moved to a 7 days a week service last year operating from 8am to 8pm.
The previous year, opening hours of the unit were extended from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday after a long campaign urging local people to use the facility in a bid reduce pressure on the Cavan Emergency Department. The unit opened after the closure of the Emergency Department in 2009 but the opening hours were reduced two years later due to a lack of footfall.
The facility treats injuries including broken bones, dislocations, wounds, scalds and burns, facial and eye injuries, and minor chest injuries. The Unit can also provide x-rays as needed.
Senator Gallagher says he is continuing to encourage locals to use the facility.
