Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys today turned the sod for an extension of the playpark at Rossmore. The local Minister also officially opened The Bog Garden at the Ulster Canal Greenway and performed the official opening of Belgium Park Refurbishments. peaking to Northern Sound, Minister Humphreys said she was "delighted" to provide a funding allocation of €130,000 to expand the local playpark. Rossmore has no doubt emerged as a "popular tourist attraction" with the Minister highlighting that a total of 358,000 people visited the park last year. She went on to describe the local amenity as Monaghan's "very own Atlantic way." According to Minister Humphreys, her department has allocated a total of €1million to Rossmore Park so far.
"We all know how popular Rossmore Park is, it has become a tourist destination," explained 358,000 people came to this park last year which is just unbelievable. It's very popular and I'm delighted that the play area is going to expanded. This is a great place, when I came through the gate here today the first thing I seen was a bus load of people coming specifically to visit Rossmore Park, this has become a tourist destination, this is our Atlantic Way there's no doubt about it. This is a place where people want to come and we want to welcome them."
