A local Minister says decisions on the pension age will be made based on the report by the Commission on pensions.
Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys says she set up the commission in order to have an independent body review on a wider perspective all of the contributing factors that should determine the appropriate pension age.
She says the aim is to protect the pension for younger people entering the workforce.
Minister Humphreys has stated that she intends to follow through on the recommendations by the commission within 6 months of the reports completion which is due in June.
Until then the retirement age will remain at 66 and she is assuring those retiring now that she is signing off on a document that will insure they receive their pension:
