Local Minister Humphreys has announced changes to the Reasonable Accommodation Fund and Disability Awareness Support Scheme following a comprehensive review of both schemes.
The Fund provides financial support for people with disabilities; for employers to help make their workplaces more accessible; and provides a range of in-work supports.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Minister Humphreys said she was "delighted " that over 900 responses were received from those interested.
She highlighted how take-up has been "lower than expected" which is why she commissioned a review in the first instance.
The Minister added that a "simple, flexible scheme" is needed for people with a disability and for employers to support them.
Minister Humphreys continued; "We know that it is harder for people with disabilities to get into the workforce and Ireland is behind the EU average for employment rates for people with disabilities. At a time of full employment, we must do more.
"I have therefore asked my officials to expedite the implementation of these recommendations so that we can have a much-improved scheme in place from Q1 2024."
