A local MEP is calling for grants for older people to include modifications that allow for access to assistive technologies.
Colm Markey, MEP for the Midlands North-West says the latest technology for older people includes health monitoring, sensors, and communication aids.
And he told the Joe Finnegan Show this morning that all of this is helping older people to live independently for longer.
MEP Markey said the Covid-19 pandemic taught everyone that alternative ways of communicating and keeping in touch were possible.
And With regard to all of this, he said, older people just need confidence to be instilled in them so that they too can develop their skills further.
"If technology can be managed remotely to monitor and take care of people, that instills confidence.
"And the family are happy because if anything happens, they will get the call."
