A Co Monaghan man will receive a Seiko "Just in Time" award at this evening's annual Water Safety Ireland Awards ceremony.
Tommy Moyna's quick thinking that helped save a couple at risk of drowning will be recognised at the event.
On the 25th of July this year, Tommy was working on a farm in Ballinode when he heard shouting from a man and woman in difficulty in Quig Lough.
He immediately dived under the water and pulled the submerged woman above the surface.
The man also held onto Tommy, who successfully managed to tow the couple to safety.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Tommy described his successful rescue:
Meanwhile, three people from the Northern Sound region with 20 years each of voluntary commitment to water safety and rescue will receive the "Long Service Award".
Monaghan's Josephine O'Rourke and Cavan's Evelyn O'Reilly and Philomena Lynch will receive this accolade from Water Safety Ireland.
