Almost €82,000 in funding has been allocated to local libraries for programmes supporting older people, marginalised and disadvantaged groups.

The funding was announced by the Department of Rural and Community Development this morning.

Part of this funding will go towards the purchase of literacy and numeracy digital skills licences or apps to assist people with low literacy levels, learning differences, visual or hearing impairments.

It will also be used for programmes, run through libraries across the country, to support people in disadvantaged groups or the elderly.

Locally, Roscommon is receiving the most funding at €28,300 (€28,317.67), with Leitrim receiving almost €22,000 (€21,666.67).

Longford has been allocated €20,500 (€20,563), with €18,000 for Monaghan (€17,827.03) and just under €13,000 (€12,685.38) for Cavan.
