A local Labour representative is backing a bill that would see the carbon impact of all products placed on its labelling.
The Carbon Footprint Labelling Bill was launched by Labour TD Duncan Smith and would appoint the National Standards Authority of Ireland to provide independent and comparable figures, in recognisable and reliable standard measures.
Cavan Labour rep Liam Van der Spek says it would provide a boost for locally produced goods and services.
He added that the proposed law would build in climate action into the Irish economy and put power at the hands of consumers, while promoting sustainable and local products.
