A local ICSA representative says there is no fear funding for the TB Eradication programme will be pulled by the EU.
Despite recent reports suggesting it could, ICSA Animal Health and Welfare Chair, and Cavan farmer, Hugh Farrell believes it’s unlikely because the programme allows for trade in the EU by creating a required quality level.
He also says that there should have been allocations put in place earlier that would have allowed for the cost of growing expenditure, especially with the dairy herds in Ireland seeing increases in recent years.
Hugh Farrell, who also sits of the TB Forum, says that a lack of consistency when it comes to testing badgers, and the unaddressed deer problem is adding to the issues surrounding TB nationally.
