The Covid situation has never been as bad as it is now in Cavan and Monaghan Hospital.
Its manager David Lynch has appealed for everyone to abide by restrictions and do as much as possible to prevent the spread of Covid-19 but he expects the increase in the number of cases to continue for now.
He says Cavan and Monaghan Hospitals are feeling the pressure of the third wave of the pandemic and the number of Covid positive patients seen in the first and second waves are "nothing like they are now".
Cavan and Monaghan yesterday saw a significant drop in the number of new, confirmed Covid cases.
Vaccinations of local hospital staff began last week with the uptake locally said to be good.
David Lynch has blamed the behaviour of some people for the recent increase but he says he hopes the number of cases will start to plateau soon.
