Local gyms are appealing to people to contact local representatives in the region to have restrictions eased.
Jennifer Mullen is a trainer and instructor with the Fitness Habit in Monaghan Town and she says that members have been expressing their upset and shock at the decision to close gyms under Level 5 restrictions.
She says that for many it had been the only outlet they had following the first lockdown and was the main way people socialised and managed their mental health in recent months.
Jennifer said that they had considered remaining open against the guidlelines, something some Dublin gyms tried to do, but she said that many of their members live outside the 5k radius so they decided against it.
