Local Green Party candidate believes land hoarding tax will help ease housing crisis

A Green Party candidate for Cavan-Monaghan believes the land hoarding tax will make a difference in boosting housing supply.

Eddie O'Gara who commutes to Dublin by bus from Monaghan says he is surrounded by students who can't afford the sky high rents.

The average rent in Dublin now stands at close to €2,500 a month.

Speaking on our series of live debates, the Green Party candidate says taxes on hoarding land will make a difference in the long term, especially for young people.

He added, however, that it won't be an instant fix.
