A national executive meeting of members of An Garda Síochána is to take place next week to discuss changes to the roster.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, James Morrisroe, Garda Representative Association, Central Executive Committee for Cavan/Monaghan and Interim Deputy General Secretary, says the move by the Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris to restore the roster to its Pre Covid-19 status will lead to mass resignations within the force.
The Commissioner wants Gardaí to return to working six days on and four days off but Mr Morrisroe says that the current four days on and four days off is the only roster that is acceptable to GRA members.
He says that since the Covid-19 roster was introduced, 3,000 members have joined An Garda Síochána and they have worked four days on and four days off since their recruitment. Mr Morrisroe added that members feel the Commissioner's efforts to change the roster now, is an attempt by him, to force members into accepting lesser terms and conditions.
"We are holding a special national executive meeting next Wednesday but that could change. In the past, and back in 2016, we held a special delegate conference and all our members and delegates from across the country came together and a particular course was taken.
"That can't be ruled out; we may call a special delegate conference if this isn't sorted out before then. The here and now is what we are dealing with now and the first thing is a national executive meeting so that we can hear from all our delegates across the country," he said.
