People are being urged not to rely on antigen tests for peace of mind.
The Chief Medical Officer warned people against using the tests after they were offered for sale in supermarkets last week.
Monaghan GP Dr Illona Duffy says there's "no reason" why people would be buying the tests as they won't get you any more freedoms like foreign travel.
Speaking on The Joe Finnegan Show, she said other countries are using the tests to try and trace asymptomatic spread of the virus but that's not the case in Ireland.
She said there's no reason at present for people to be using the tests:
