Gardaí in Cavan are alerting people to a storm-related scam currently doing the rounds.
The scammers are targeting people by text with a message purporting to be from the government offering people discounts on their electricity bill.
The message from Gov.ie tells recipients: "You are eligible for a discounted electricity bill under the emergency benefit and provides a fake website address for people to click and log into.

Gardaí in Cavan say the difference between fake and genuine links and websites are "very subtle" and reminds people not to connect to unknown links but only go directly to a trusted known source. We have posted a copy of the text as it will appear on your phone here:
