Gardaí in the Northern Sound region have warned about the resurgence of an elaborate scam.
The scam involves members of the public receiving phone calls from persons claiming to be from the Department of Social Protection.
Those responsible are using a number similar to that of the Department's helpline, which is leading some to believe it is legitimate.
Local gardaí say many of the scammers are using a "083" number and have reminded the public that a legitimate organisation or company will never ask for your personal information or banking details over the phone.
