Local gardaí are urging parents to refrain from purchasing illegal fireworks for their children over the Halloween period.
Garda Tracy Donaghy, from Carrickmacross Garda Station, says fireworks cause damage to property and injure people and animals every year.
It is illegal to import, hold, sell or use fireworks without a licence, and breaches of the legislation carries a fine of up to 10 thousand euro or five years imprisonment.
Concerns have been expressed that more fireworks will be set off this Halloween period due to celebrations being curtailed last year as a result of pandemic restrictions.
