Gardaí in the Northern Sound region are reminding the public to never give personal financial details over the phone.
It follows an incident this week where a large sum of money was removed from a local person's account as a result of a text scam.
The victim received a text message claiming to be from Bank of Ireland, which stated that an unknown direct debit was added to the victim's account.
This was followed up by a phone call from a male purporting to be from the bank's fraud section, displaying what appeared to be the correct number of the bank.
The victim unwittingly thought this to be a genuine call and provided his bank details when asked, which resulted in a large sum of money being removed from the account.
Gardaí are reminding the public that no bank employee will ever ask for your personal details over the phone.
