Gardaí in Monaghan are investing a number of thefts of copper wire belonging to Eir.
The incidents occurred in both the Castleblayney and Carrickmacross areas in recent weeks, with the latest taking place in Drumlusty, Carrickmacross.
The thieves leave the plastic sheddings at the scene, before making off with the internal copper.
Local gardaí say the "culprits have no consideration for the breakdown in communication this causes in rural communities, not to mention the cost of replacement".
They're appealing for communities in rural areas of Castleblayney and Carrickmacross to be vigilant for unusual late-night activity and to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station if they have any information that may assist the investigation.
