Door hangers, which either welcome trick or treaters or ask them not to call at doors have been made available by Gardaí to homeowners in the Cavan/Monaghan area. The hangers which are available in green for welcome and red for 'no trick or treaters' have been criticised and praised in equal measure by followers of the local Garda division Facebook page.
One member of the public commented "the tightness of people knows no bounds" while others praised the scheme as a "great idea".
An Garda Síochána Cavan/Monaghan say the red 'no to trick or treaters' door hangers could mean people have a new-born baby in the house, or someone is ill or elderly. Anyone interested in getting one for their front door can collect one in Cavan Garda Station. A number of them have also been left in the Teach Oscail; Resource Centre also in Cavan Town. This is the second year of this unique Garda campaign which was a huge success last year.
