An Garda Siochana in County Monaghan says it is "delighted" to be associated with and to form an "integral part" of the Monaghan Road Safety Plan 2023-2024. In conjunction with Monaghan County Council and the Roads Safety Authority, Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern says local Gardaí will "endeavour" to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries arising from collisions on local roads by delivering Road Safety education programmes to schools in Co Monaghan.
He added that the major causes of death and serious injury on local roads continue to be speeding, dangerous driving, driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs, non-wearing of seat belts and distraction by using mobile phones.
Through programmes of education, awareness, and enforcement, Superintendent McGovern believes that the Road Safety Plan for 2023 to 2024 will "significantly contribute" to safer roads across Co Monaghan.
