Gardaí in Monaghan detected a vehicle travelling almost twice the legal limit on the N2 over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
According to the Monaghan Roads Policing Unit, a novice driver carried two passengers on board while travelling at a speed of 180 kilometres per hour, despite the legal speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour.
While the driver is expected to appear in court, Monaghan Gardaí has appealed to drivers to "slow down" and follow the legal guidelines.
It comes after the Road Safety Authority issued concerns over the escalating number of deaths on the country's roads.
Eight people have died following a number of road traffic incidents over the Bank Holiday weekend, bringing the total for the year to 78.
