Local Garda Division launches initiative to help elderly and vulnerable people

Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern said the scheme will also give gardaí a chance to check in on elderly members of the community.

The Cavan/Monaghan Garda Division has launched an Age Friendly Community Engagement Initiative aimed at elderly and vulnerable people living in isolated areas.

The new scheme will see community Gardai in both counties deliver crime prevention packs, that include an LED candle and fridge magnet with crime prevention information.

It's expected this initiative will be rolled out nationally.

Yesterday's launch was attended by local Minister Heather Humphreys, Age Friendly's Catherine McGuigan, and representatives from both Monaghan and Cavan Joint Policing Committees.

Garda Assistant Commissioner Paula Hilman also attended the event, and the Cavan/Monaghan Garda Division has committed to focusing on community safety to reduce the fear of crime.
