Christina Weldon was crowned 'Volunteer of the Year' at this year's Monaghan Volunteer Awards.
This award recognises the voluntary work of an individual of any age.
Christina has volunteered with Latton O'Rahilly GAA for 12 years. She is club secretary and Healthy Club officer. She has also worked hard to open up the club to all in the community, not just those playing GAA games.
Christina also introduced the Healthy Club Agenda and brought RTE's Operation Transformation to the club in 2020, delivered meals to older people during Covid and much more. Due to Christina the club facilities are full of walkers every morning, creating an opportunity not just for exercise but also a social outlet.
According to Christina volunteering is a vital part of community life and she would encourage anyone to get involved and make a difference, no matter how big or small.
Speaking on the benefits, Christina added that there is no better feeling, than working hard towards something and seeing the final product, which will be there for generations to come:
