Funding of over €723,000 has been allocated for repairs and improvement works on rural roads and laneways in Cavan and Monaghan.
This funding, under the Local Improvement Scheme, will support the continued improvement of non-public roads and lanes that are not normally maintained by the local authorities.
Just over €371,000 is being provided to Cavan, while close to €352,000 is being invested in projects in Monaghan.
Minister Heather Humphreys said the Local Improvement Scheme is an important source of funding for small non-public roads and laneways.
However, the funding has been criticised by Cavan Councillor John Paul Feeley.
He said the allocation to Cavan is "very poor and disappointing to those waiting for years on the list".
Councillor Feeley added that he hopes "a more substantial allocation will be forthcoming later in the year".
