Local fire crews attended three animal rescue call-outs in 2019 at a cost over €5,000.
Two of them involved the rescue of cattle from a slurry tank.
According to details released under the Freedom of Information Act to Shannonside Northern Sound News, last year a unit of Clones Fire Service was called to assist in the rescue of livestock from a slurry tank on a local farm.
Eight crew members responded, with the call-out estimating €1,660.
In December of this year, a crew from Castleblayney Fire Service rescued cattle that had fallen into a slurry pit. The costs of which has yet to be finalised.
Cavan County Fire Service responded to one similar call in 2019.
One unit made up of nine personnel helped a farmer put straps around a calf to lift it from an empty slurry tank.
The associated cost was €1,391.85.
Fire crews in Cavan also had a call which was a false alarm with good intent, where the animal wasn't in need of assistance.
12 crew of the Longford Town Fire Brigade spent almost three hours at an animal rescue call-out in December 2019.
The details of the call-out weren't specified, but it came at a cost of €2,075.
Leitrim County Fire Services didn't attend any animal rescue call-outs between 2018 and 2020, while Roscommon Fire Service stated it does not attend animal rescues.
