A local Fianna Fail TD says he's concerned about international travel bringing Covid variants to Ireland.
Cavan's Brendan Smith was speaking ahead of this evening's announcement, where it's expected international travel restrictions will be eased mid-July.
He says research in the UK has highlighted that the Indian variant is more transmissible than previous types, however hospitalisations are primarily among those who are "vaccine hesitant".
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Smith said people need hope in the Taoiseach's speech, but he'd personally err on the side of caution.
