A local Saint Vincent de Paul rep says there are urgent issues that local families need to see fixed in the upcoming budget.
The organisation today launched its pre-budget submission which it says proposes a "package of reforms... that would lay the foundation for an Ireland without poverty".
Among the proposals are changes to the SUSI grant system, increases in social welfare payments and measures to ensure people don't suffer in changes to a low carbon society.
Madeline Uí Mhealóid from the Cavan branch says the organisation has had a very difficult year due to the number of people requiring help and the lack of income from the charity shop network.
