Staying local and limiting travel abroad may help prevent a major resurgence of Covid-19 according to a local expert.
Recent data has shown that more than half of the confirmed cases of the virus this week were due to people travelling or coming into contact with someone who had traveled.
Infectious diseases expert, and Monaghan native, Professor Sam McConkey, says that blame can’t be placed on airlines, as they are trying to provide employment and recover from the pandemic, but the advice not to travel is unambiguous and could stop a spread.
He also has advised that a gradualistic approach to socializing and gatherings needs to be practiced, as there is still an average of 10 cases a day in the country.
