A local environmental activist has urged consumers to respond to the plastic plague.
Candice Moen, of local environmental group Transition Monaghan, adds that producers will change their behaviours if consumers change their habits.
It comes as the Dáil debates plans to ban single-use cups, packaging and containers.
Under the new Circular Economy Bill, single use cups could be banned in Ireland by 2026.
It also includes an environmental levy on certain plastics and would allow local authorities to use CCTV to catch illegal dumpers.
