Yesterday evening Monaghan Roads Policing Unit detected a car travelling at 145kmph in a 100km/ph speed limit on the N2.
The driver was the holder of a learner permit and was driving unaccompanied.
The car was subsequently detained and the driver will receive Fixed Payment Notices.
A court appearance is also anticipated.
Meanwhile, over the past 24 hours, Cavan Roads Policing Unit has been patrolling roads across the county.
Two drug drivers and two drunk drivers were detected during patrols.
All vehicles were detained under Section 41 Road Traffic Act for various offences including drivers driving on learner permits unaccompanied; no insurance; and no NCT.
Two of the drivers have already been charged and are before the courts.
Gardai are advising motorists not to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
