'Coercive control is not an expression of love but a form of abuse'
That's according to Siobhan McKenna of Monaghan based Tearmann Domestic
Violence Services.
Speaking at a recent sitting of the Monaghan Joint Policing Committee,
Siobhan highlighted how Christmas is meant to be the most wonderful time of
the year.
However, for many women, men and children, higher expectations and added
expenses can lead for abuse within a household to intensify.
As a result, the Tearmann representative has encouraged anyone who is
experiencing abuse to reach out and get help.
She added that too many lives are being lost as a result of domestic abuse
and that emergency services and helplines are available 24/7 over the
festive period.
