A dog attack in Monaghan left six sheep and young lambs dead.
The latest report of out-of-control; dogs in the Northern Sound region follows a warning from Cavan Gardaí last week following attacks there and two reports of humans being attacked by dogs in both Cavan and Monaghan.
Yesterday, we reported an incident on May, 9th when a person was attacked by a "group of dogs" in Threemilehouse. We also reported how sitting Cavan County Councillor Sarah O'Reilly had been bitten by dogs on three separate incidents while on the campaign trail in recent weeks.
Previously Gardaí ion Cavan felt compelled to contact Northern Sound to ask people to keep their dogs under control following an increase in the number of reports to them by farmers who had their livestock attacked. A farmer in Newbliss reported a dog attack in which several sheep drowned as dogs drove them into a drain in fear.
IFA National Sheep Chair Adrian Gallagher said such attacks are devastating to farmers and while they've always been a problem the issue has become worse since the pandemic.
