Over €27 million announced for Cavan and Monaghan towns today has the potential to be “transformative” according to the Minister responsible.
Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien visited the Abbeylands area of Cavan town to hear more on plans for the major redevelopment project.
Over €14 million will go towards the project, which will see the Abbey incorporated into a new civic space in the town centre.
Over €13 million will go towards the Dublin Street redevelopment in Monaghan town, with plans there to open the street into another new civic space to include shops, offices and a hotel.
No firm timelines are in place for either project but today’s announcement will allow the commencement of further design works.
Speaking in Cavan today, Minister O’Brien said he’s hopeful the projects will rejuvenate the town centres:
Both Councils have been working on the planning for the projects and both have moved a step closer with this morning's announcement.

There's "great potential" for Monaghan town after today's regeneration funding.
The Chief Executive of Monaghan County Council, Eamonn O'Sullivan said the project will make Monaghan town "a great place to live, work and visit".
Fianna Fail Senator Robbie Gallagher says the increased investment will be very beneficial.
