Monaghan County Council is to write to the Mayor of Bethlehem to express its disapproval of illegal Israeli settlements within the city.
The motion was raised by Sinn Féin's Pat Treanor, who called on the council to "express its disgust" with the illegal occupation.
Councillor Brian McKenna said the settlements are illegal under UN and international law.
While he acknowledged that the motion may not make much of a difference, Councillor McKenna added that the council had to do something.
