Local councillors have once again called for an extension to the opening hours of the Monaghan Minor Injury Unit.
At a recent County Council meeting, Cllr Seamus Coyle expressed "serious disappointment" with the Department of Health and passed a motion calling for the unit to operate on a 24/7 basis year-round, amid "increasing hospital appointment waiting lists".
Meanwhile, Sean Conlon also had a motion passed calling for additional opening hours.
He told the meeting that there are waiting times in Cavan Hospital of six hours, and that additional hours at the Monaghan MIU would help alleviate this.
Cllr Conlon passed a motion calling on Ian Carter, the CEO of the RCSI Hospital Group, to lend his support in opening the facility for 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
