A Local Councillor is welcoming the announcement in recent days that a new specialised dedicated Garda Drugs unit has been announced for Cavan and Monaghan. The dedicated unit will be made up of Gardaí from various ranks who will specialise in the area of drug detection. Over 600,000 worth of drugs has been seized across Cavan and Monaghan over the past three weeks according to the Chief Superintendent for the region. Cllr Sean Gilliland says drugs are a scourge in our society in every town and village and have a major impact on families across the region. The Monaghan councillor says there is now a clear message being sent out that if you are involved in the illicit drug trade you will be caught.
Cllr Gilliland says its good news to help stamp out drugs locally and bad news for drug dealers.
