A local Sinn Féin councillor has welcomed a statement by local Minister Heather Humphreys regarding the provision of Community Welfare Officers.
Colm Carthy recently expressed concern the possible closure of Community Welfare Offices in Co Monaghan.
However, Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys says the service is being enhanced locally and a walk-in CWO service will now be available in the Carrickmacross branch on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Meanwhile, customers no longer have to meet in person with a Community Welfare Officer to make a claim.
Minister Humphreys says this ensures those who urgently require assistance no longer need to wait to visit a clinic if they don't wish to do so.
Councillor Carthy says this "has to be welcomed" and added that he is "glad to see it".
