A Monaghan councillor says the county's soon-to-be-launched "Women's Assembly" will be a vital aid in giving women a voice in local politics.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Aoife McCooey added that the women's assembly will bring together women from across the county to discuss issues that affect them.
Monaghan County Council recently received funding of €13,000 for the project which will encourage women and people of diverse communities to get involved in Local Government.
The first meeting of the Women's Assembly took place yesterday and it's hoped there will be an official launch on International Women's Day on the 8th of March.
