Cllr Sinead Flynn has proposed to write to the Minister for Health and demand that the Department for Health immediately explain the reasons for the delay to the introduction of the free HRT scheme. Sinn Fein's Sinead Flynn also called on the Health Minister to outline what steps need to be taken to get the scheme up and running. Her concerns were raised at this week's sitting of the Ballybay-Clones MD.
According to Cllr Flynn, there seems to be some unexplained delay to the promised roll out of the free HRT medications as promised by the Minister as part of budget 2025. The €20 million budgetary measure was due to come into operation from the start of this month and it now seems the Department of Health has rowed back on their promise. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Flynn said this is a "big disappointment" to the thousands of women on HRT who were expecting to see a reduction in their medication expenses from January 2025.
Cllr Flynn proposed to write to the Minister for Health and demand that the Department for Health immediately explain the reasons for the delay to the introduction of the free HRT scheme and outline what steps need to be taken to get the scheme up and running. Furthermore she stated that serious consideration must be given to reimbursing women for any HRT costs they incur between January and the eventual introduction of the scheme.
