A Monaghan councillor has advised people to be "mindful" of the dangers around lighting fires in public spaces, as this good spell of weather looks set to continue. According to Cllr Seamus Treanor, people must use picnic facilities "safely" when barbecuing, particularly in local parks and forest trails.
His comments were supported by Chief Fire Officer Dermot Brannigan who confirmed to Northern Sound that local fire crews attended a number of call-outs last week.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr Brannigan appealed to forest visitors to not use barbeques or open fires at any stage during high temperatures. He added that the need for increased vigilance at this time cannot be overstated.
