A Monaghan councillor says local representatives will put up "one hell of a battle" to ensure that essential works are put in place to prevent further accidents in the village of Emyvale.
Sinn Fein's Brian McKenna was speaking on today's Wider View, in relation to an incident which occurred on Friday morning, in which a lorry crashed in to the front of a house while residents were inside.
Cllr McKenna said he has "no doubt" that the incident occurred as a result of speeding.
He added that the N2 Clontibret to the Border Scheme, which would include the bypass of Emyvale has now been "put on hold," which will leave the Monaghan village in the same predicament for some time to come.
Despite this, he says speed ramps and further signage points to slow drivers down, would be suitable short-term solutions that could prevent accidents like this from happening again.
While Monaghan County Council is governed by TII who decide what can be done on national roads, Cllr McKenna believes the people of Emyvale would not object to speed ramps, if it means saving a potential life.
