A local Fine Gael councillor has shared his thoughts on the €9m allocated in Budget 2025 for mobile phone pouches in schools. While Sinn Fein has described the allocation as a 'scandalous waste' of taxpayers money, Cllr David Maxwell believes the opposition is using "deflection" tactics.
According to Cllr Maxwell, the Education Budget is over €11 billion, with the price of phone pouches accounting for only 0.01% of that overall spend. Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, the local Fine Gael representative said that he hasn't heard one person argue over what the Government is trying to do in getting mobile phones out of schools. Despite this, he's aware that there are concerns out there over whether or not Government should be spending €9 million on pouches to do that.
