More funding needs to be secured to assist cancer patients with the likes of faster turn around times with the likes of scans, starting therapy and operations.
That's the call Fianna Fail Cavan Councillor, Aine Smith. She brought a motion to this week's meeting of Cavan County Council calling on a letter to be written to the health minister ahead of Budget 2025.
On average 42,000 Irish people every year have been diagnosed with cancer.
Cllr Smith said that after the diagnosis it can be very unknown and worrying time for the patient and there family and friends and unfortunately lengthy wait times for operations, scans and starting therapy are unfortunately common across the country. She highlighted the gaps that exist when it comes to cancer care, pointing out that for people with cancer, these lengthy waits are too long.
