A local councillor has called in the Government to open toy shops as an essential service.
Independent councillor in Monaghan Paudge Connolly says that this time of year retailers who specialise in toys count on this season to generate a large portion of their income, and by remaining shut much of their custom will go abroad through online purchasing.
He says that by deeming them essential more people will shop local, and it will prevent a major rush on the 1st of December which he feels could see shops overcrowded.
Councillor Connolly says that online trade is damaging our local economies and if given the opportunity toy shop owners would operate in a safe, compliant manner.
