A Cavan councillor has called for a review to be taken when it comes to medical card eligibility. The issue was brought to the fore at this month's sitting of Cavan County Council by Cllr Shane P O'Reilly.
Cllr O'Reilly says he has advocated for some time that those with life limiting conditions should be automatically entitled to a medical card. He also called for a review of the Long Term Illness Scheme. According to Cllr O'Reilly, the scheme has not been reviewed since 1985, during which many illnesses should have been added that would make certain medications free to patients. While he has raised the matter with successive Health Ministers over his 21-year career in local politics, Cllr O'Reilly is calling for action to be taken once and for all.
