Today will mark the "biggest day" of the year in the Irish show jumping calendar. That's according to show jumping commentator and Monaghan native Brendan McArdle. According to Mr McArdle, it's days like today when legend of the sport Eddie Macken is not far from the minds of all show jumping fans and competitors.
Eddie Macken and his famous horse Boomerang were a key combination in Ireland's three-in a-row Aga Khan winning quartet of 1977 to 1979.
The 2023 Aga Khan trophy will be up for grabs at the Dublin Horse Show today, with team Ireland hoping to emerge victorious.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Monaghan commentator Brendan McArdle who works for the 'Irish Field' believes Ireland's team is in with a "great chance."
He continued; "Eddie Macken was my hero, he epitomised what show jumping is all about in Ireland and set a standard across the world. Eight nations will be lining out this afternoon, for one of the most coveted trophies in world show jumping."
